The President of the AIMIM (All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen), Asaduddin Owaisi, announced on Tuesday that his party will support the Congress candidate, Naveen Yadav, in the upcoming Jubilee Hills Assembly by-election, scheduled for November 11.
Speaking to reporters, he explained that the party decided to back the Congress candidate because the election result would not affect the stability of the incumbent state government, and he believes development is possible under Yadav.
"Our appeal to the people of Jubilee Hills is that the government will not change with the outcome of the polls. We appeal to nearly four lakh voters who have supported BRS for the last ten years. Now, I request you to vote for Naveen Yadav, who is young and can bring development to Jubilee Hills,” Owaisi stated. He alleged that the Bharat Rashtra Samithi party, despite representing the segment for the past ten years, failed to deliver any meaningful development.
He also hinted that the AIMIM may adopt a different strategy in the next general elections.
The high-stakes by-election for the Jubilee Hills Assembly constituency will be held on November 11, with votes counted on November 14. The by-election was called following the death of BRS MLA Maganti Gopinath in June this year after he suffered a heart attack. The BRS has fielded Maganti Sunitha, Gopinath’s widow, while the Bharatiya Janata Party nominated Lankala Deepak Reddy.
Responding to a query, Owaisi mentioned that his party had written to RJD President Lalu Prasad and his son Tejashwi Yadav, indicating its willingness to contest the polls as a constituent of the INDIA bloc this time, but the letters received no response. Separately, the AIMIM announced 25 candidates, including two non-Muslims, for the Bihar Assembly polls on Sunday.
