A 46-year-old air hostess has accused hospital staff of sexually assaulting her while she was unconscious and on a ventilator at a private hospital in Gurugram. The Gurugram Police have confirmed that an FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and that a full investigation is ongoing.

The incident reportedly occurred after the woman was admitted to the hospital in the Sadar area on 6 April, having been transferred there from another facility by her husband. She was initially hospitalised after nearly drowning in a swimming pool at a hotel where she had been staying while undergoing airline training.

The case came to light after the woman was discharged on 13 April and lodged a formal complaint. According to her statement, she became aware of inappropriate physical contact by hospital staff while she was on life support but was unable to react or resist due to her critical condition.

Upon her discharge and return home, she informed her husband and called the emergency helpline number 112. With assistance from a legal advisor, the couple filed a complaint at the Sadar police station.

The Police Public Relations Officer said, “We are taking this matter very seriously. Statements are being recorded, hospital staff are being questioned, and CCTV footage from the hospital premises is being reviewed.”

In a statement issued by Medanta Hospital, the facility stated it was cooperating with the authorities: “At this stage, no allegations have been substantiated, and all relevant documents, including CCTV footage from the hospital for the time period in question, have been handed over to the police.”

Police officials said that the identity of the accused has not yet been confirmed, and the investigation is focusing on collecting technical and circumstantial evidence.

The survivor’s testimony and any supporting surveillance footage will be key to determining the sequence of events. Gurugram Police assured that the case is being treated with the utmost urgency and sensitivity.
