Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Health and Education Sakeena Itoo on Sunday issued a stern warning that all corrupt officers or those involved in corruption are on the government’s radar. She said the National Conference government has a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption in the Union Territory.
The warning comes days after the government attached a senior education officer in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district over complaints of his involvement in serious corruption.
The minister said, 'Any information against any officer, especially for bribery, will be acted upon.' That officer will not be left like this.”
She made these comments on the sidelines of an event at the Government Degree College for Women here on Sunday.
“Our government, led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, is committed to transparency, and we remain committed to the idea of a corruption-free and accountable government,” she added.
Responding to recent criticism over the government’s actions in the Union Territory by several political leaders, including Mehbooba Mufti, Altaf Bukhari and Sajjad Gani Lone, the minister said, “First you say work is not happening. Then when work is happening, when action is happening, you are not happy. Then you say, why did it happen? What do you want?” she questioned.
She went on to say that the National Conference government would not shield any officer facing corruption or bribery complaints in the Union Territory.
Meanwhile, opposition parties in Jammu and Kashmir have questioned the National Conference’s stance on its unfulfilled poll promises, including free electricity, free gas, and free ration to the poor sections.
They have criticised the government, stating that the NC has violated the massive mandate given to them by the people of Jammu and Kashmir in the 2024 assembly elections.
