Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Monday said his government has fulfilled all the pre-election “guarantees” within four years of coming to power and that the state is steadily moving on the path of progress.
Mann was speaking to reporters in Chandigarh as the AAP government completed four years in office. On the occasion, he also released a booklet highlighting the key achievements of his government so far.
Taking a swipe at previous governments, Mann said earlier regimes often failed to deliver on the promises mentioned in their manifestos even after completing five-year terms. He added that the AAP government has fulfilled all its guarantees within four years.
“Punjab is moving on the path of progress,” the chief minister said, reiterating that his government has focused on fulfilling commitments made to the people. Sharing details of his government’s work, Mann highlighted the provision of 300 units of free electricity to domestic consumers, daytime power supply to farmers, the launch of Aam Aadmi Clinics and the introduction of cashless medical treatment of up to Rs 10 lakh under the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna.
He said that when his government came to power in 2022, opposition parties questioned the promise of free electricity. However, he said, the government fulfilled its first poll guarantee in July by providing 300 units of free power to households.
Mann said the free electricity scheme was implemented without any conditions. According to him, nearly 90 per cent of households in the state are now receiving free power, which provides monthly savings of around Rs 5,000 to Rs 7,000 for families.
He also mentioned the resumption of coal supply from the Pachwara coal mine and the government’s decision to purchase a 540 MW private power plant at a cost of Rs 1,080 crore.
The chief minister further said the state government has set up 881 Aam Aadmi Clinics across Punjab and plans to open more than 200 additional clinics in the coming period. He added that the number of OPD visits at these clinics has crossed five crore, which, according to him, reflects people’s growing trust in the services being provided.
Mann also said his government started Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna under which cashless medical treatment of up to Rs 10 lakh will be provided to every resident family.
Referring to the setting up of the Sadak Surkhya Force, Mann said the initiative has helped reduce road accident deaths in the state by 49 per cent. He added that the initiative has received appreciation from several other states as well.
