The first batch of the 2026 Amarnath Yatra has left the base camp after Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha flagged off the convoy from Jammu on Thursday morning. This marks the official beginning of the annual Amarnath Yatra 2026.
According to officials, a total of 4,822 pilgrims, including 2,312 pilgrims travelling through the Baltal axis and 2,510 through Pahalgam, have left for the twin base camps in the Kashmir Valley.
Convoy comprises 259 vehicles, including buses, MMVs, LMVs, and two-wheelers, they said.
The convoy meant to travel through the Baltal axis departed the base camp at 6:10 am, while the one travelling through the Pahalgam axis left at 6:35 am. Pilgrims include men, women, and children along with sadhus and sadhvis.
The administration has made elaborate security arrangements to ensure an incident-free Yatra.
The MHA has deployed nearly 650 companies of security forces personnel, including CRPF and CISF, to prevent any untoward incident during the Yatra.
All essential arrangements have been made for the smooth conduct of the 2026 Yatra.
The 57-day yatra will see hundreds of thousands of pilgrims travelling from all over the country to pay respects and obeisance to Baba Barfani in the Himalayan mountains.
