A fresh batch of 1,801 Amarnath pilgrims left Jammu after the Yatra resumed following a one-day suspension in Kashmir over Article 370 anniversary.

A fresh batch of over 1,800 Amarnath pilgrims left the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu a day after the Yatra was suspended in Kashmir over the anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370, officials said on Thursday.

According to the Joint Police Control Room, Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu, the 28th batch of pilgrims left the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas at 2:45 a.m. for the Baltal base camp under tight security arrangements. The Yatra on the Pahalgam axis remained suspended. Of the 1,801 pilgrims, 1,347 were men, 351 were women, 89 were sadhus, and 14 were sadhvis who were part of the fresh convoy. Travelling in 74 vehicles, the convoy consisted of 40 buses, 12 medium motor vehicles, 19 light motor vehicles and three two-wheelers.

The convoy is travelling under stringent security measures put in place by the Jammu and Kashmir administration to ensure a smooth and hassle-free Yatra.

Besides, the Ministry of Home Affairs has also deployed nearly 650 additional companies of security forces for the protection of the Yatra routes.

With the departure of the latest batch, the total number of pilgrims who have left Jammu for the ongoing Amarnath Yatra this year has reached 143,513, officials said.

Despite the restrictions on Wednesday, yatris who had arrived at the Baltal base camp were allowed to pay obeisance at the cave shrine. They will return to the base camp in Jammu later in the day.

The 57-day Yatra was flagged off by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on July 2 and has witnessed a record-breaking number in 2026 compared to 2025.
