The Jammu and Kashmir government has declared the entire route for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra a ‘no flying zone’ to ensure foolproof security arrangements.
The Union Territory’s Home Department has declared all the routes of the Amarnath Yatra as ‘no flying zone’, including both the Pahalgam axis & Baltal axis. The restriction applied to all types of aerial devices, including UAVs, drones and balloons, covering both the Pahalgam and Baltal routes.
The security directive would be applicable from July 1 to August 10. The decision comes after the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, advised it to do so. These restrictions shall not apply to cases of medical evacuation, disaster management, or surveillance operations conducted by security forces. A thorough standard operating procedure (SOP) for such exceptions will be issued simultaneously.
It is pertinent to mention here that Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan is chairing a high-level security meeting here today to review security arrangements for the Yatra. The much-awaited Yatra will commence on July 3 and end on August 9, on the eve of Raksha Bandhan.
In view of the Pahalgam attack, additional security measures are being undertaken for the smooth and peaceful conduct of the Yatra. As many as 580 companies of the Central Armed Paramilitary Forces (CAPF) are being deployed for the pilgrimage.
Furthermore, approximately 3.6 lakh pilgrims have registered for the upcoming Yatra, which starts from the Jammu Base camp on July 3.
