Manipur, known for its rich cultural and cinematic heritage, is preparing for the second edition of the Eikhoigi Imphal International Film Festival (EIIFF)-2025.

It is set to take place from February 6. The event aims to promote the art of cinema and position the state as a key centre for independent filmmaking.

Festival Director Sunzu Bachaspatimayum announced that the four-day festival would feature 54 films. Among them are 38 international titles from countries including Germany, Australia, Iran, Norway, Syria, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Vietnam, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Iran, and Bhutan.

During a media briefing, Bachaspatimayum, who is also the Secretary of the Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS), introduced renowned artist Robin Wahengbam as the creator of the festival memento. Wahengbam, famous for designing the mascot for the 1999 National Games in Manipur, has designed a memento featuring the Manipuri Pony. The design reflects the spirit of cinema and the cultural resilience of Manipur, with a nod to the need for the conservation of this endangered indigenous breed.

The 2025 festival aims to elevate the EIIFF as a major international event. This edition will feature critically acclaimed films from global festivals alongside a dedicated showcase of cinema from Northeast India. The film packages include categories such as International Competition, World Lenses, Northeast Currents, Eikhoigi Classics, Eikhoigi Montage, Remastered Manipuri Cinema, and Manipuri Matinee.

In addition to screenings, the festival will host several industry-focused events, such as masterclasses, cine talks, panel discussions, and pitch sessions in both documentary and fiction categories. These events will offer emerging filmmakers an opportunity to network and develop their skills.

Bachaspatimayum also shared the details of the festival’s delegate registration process. Film screenings are open only to accredited attendees, who must pay a registration fee of ₹150.

Children are welcome at cultural events, food courts, and industry venues, but seating for film screenings is limited, and reservations are required in advance.

EIIFF-2025 is supported by the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the National Film Development Corporation, the Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation, and the Information and Cultural Affairs Departments of Tripura and Manipur.
