Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level security meeting on the prevailing situation in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, officials said.

The meeting was attended by UT Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Deka and J&K

Police chief Nalin Prabhat, CRPF DG GP Singh and BSF DG Daljit Singh Chawdhary, and other senior officers from the Centre and the Union Territory (UT).

The meeting focused on reviewing the security situation in the Pir Panjal region and ongoing major developmental projects in the UT, they added. The previous review meeting on the Jammu and Kashmir security situation was chaired by Amit Shah during his visit to the UT in September.

According to sources, the Home Minister has emphasised zero tolerance against terrorism and instructed all security agencies to remain alert and operate in a coordinated, synergised manner to eliminate terrorism by dismantling the infrastructure in J&K.

Post the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, forces have intensified operations to dismantle the terror network, its logistics base, and support infrastructure while ensuring that tourism returns to the Valley.

In one of the worst attacks this year, terrorists shot dead 26 civilians, mostly tourists, in Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam when they were enjoying holidays with their families.

The attack brought the two nations close to an all-out war after India launched Operation Sindoor against the terror bases in Pakistan. Jammu and Kashmir, particularly the Jammu division, has become a new flashpoint of terror-related activities since 2021.

The terrorists have managed to exploit the vacuum created due to the mobilisation of troops from the region to eastern Ladakh after the Galwan 2020 clash.
