Union Home Minister Amit Shah will arrive in Guwahati on Saturday for a two-day visit to Assam, during which he is scheduled to attend an official function and address a youth convention organised by the ruling party’s youth wing.
According to party functionaries, Shah will land at the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in the evening and stay overnight at the Kainadhara State Guest House in the city.
During the visit, the Union minister is also expected to interact with senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party in the state and review organisational matters ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.
Dhrubajyoti Maral, media relation convenor of the BJP’s Assam unit, said Shah was likely to meet top party leaders during his stay.
“He is likely to meet the top leadership of the party and discuss strategies for the upcoming Assam assembly polls. There is nothing scheduled, but we look forward to his guidance,” Maral said.

On Sunday morning, Shah will inaugurate the Pragjyotishpur Medical College and Hospital in the Kalapahar area of Guwahati.
The medical college has two campuses, one at Panbazar and another at Kalapahar, and will become the second such institution in the state capital after the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital.
The facilities of Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital at Panbazar and the Kalapahar TB Hospital have been upgraded and integrated as part of the new medical college project.
Following the official programme, Shah will travel to the Veterinary College Playground in Khanapara to attend a youth convention organised by the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), the youth wing of the BJP.
Party leaders said Shah is expected to address thousands of youths at the convention and motivate them to contribute to nation-building and social development.
BJYM members said nearly 60,000 youths from different parts of Assam are expected to participate in the rally.
After attending the youth convention, Shah will conclude his visit and depart from the state, officials said.
