The union home minister, Amit Shah, is scheduled to visit the family of slain DSP Humayun Bhat later this evening, sources said.
Sources said that Shah will be meeting the bereaved family during his ongoing visit to Jammu and Kashmir.
DSP Humayun, 32, was one of four officers killed during an encounter in the Gadole area of South Kashmir’s Kokernag on September 13, 2023.
The ongoing visit is his first to the union territory after the formation of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah-led National conference government in October 2024.
The visit also holds immense significance as security forces are conducting anti-militancy operations in Kathua district and also when the violence related to the passage of the Waqf Bill 2025 has erupted across several states in the country.
However, despite being the only Muslim Majority region J&K has relatively remained peaceful.
Today, Shah will visit the Border Security Force’s (BSF) ‘Vinay’ outpost in Kathua and assess the ground situation.
A massive search operation has been underway in the forest areas of Kathua since March 23 after the police and other security forces intercepted five militants who had infiltrated from across the International Border in the Hiranagar sector.

Subsequently, four policemen and two militants were also killed in a fierce encounter on March 27.
Shah is also scheduled to meet the family members of the martyrs of the Jammu and Kashmir Police at the Raj Bhavan in Jammu on Monday and hand over appointment letters to some of them selected on compassionate grounds.
On Tuesday, Shah will first take stock of various development programs in a meeting at the Raj Bhavan in Srinagar.
He will then attend another meeting to review the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, the officials said.
