The Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) has opted for elections to determine a new panel to lead the actors' organisation. According to reports, it was Mohanlal who proposed that a new panel be constituted through elections. Before the meeting, there were rumors that Mohanlal would remain president if all members who met on Sunday agreed to bring back the ad-hoc committee members.
The ad-hoc committee was established in the latter part of 2024 following the dissolution of the then-executive panel led by Mohanlal in the tide of sexual abuse charges against other members of the executive panel. Differences of opinion regarding the continuation of the ad-hoc committee may have been the reason for Mohanlal's move.

It is also to be viewed if Mohanlal will be contesting the polls as the actor had made it clear that he was not eager to contest polls again for the president's post. As per the media, the polls are to be held within a period of three months.
The 31st general body, which was organised in Kochi, was graced by a number of key members of the association. Tovino Thomas, Kunchacko Boban and Sunny Wayne posted event selfies. But a number of members are said to have boycotted the event. Senior artiste Jagathy Sreekumar graced the event after 15 years.
