An ammonia gas leak at the Porwal Ice Factory in Jaora town of Madhya Pradesh's Ratlam district triggered panic late Tuesday night, prompting swift action from local authorities.
The incident occurred around 10:30 pm, leading to the immediate deployment of police, fire brigade, and administrative teams to the site. Officials confirmed that the leak, which affected some individuals, was quickly brought under control.
Sub Divisional Magistrate Trilochan Gaud identified the source of the leak as ammonia gas, which was confirmed by Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar, who stated that water was promptly sprayed to neutralise the gas and stop the leakage.
A few people who were affected received medical treatment, though officials did not provide specific details about their condition. The presence of a police line next to the factory proved crucial, as some officers on night patrol first detected the leak and acted as the initial responders. Factory workers were immediately evacuated as a precautionary measure.
Authorities assured that the situation did not escalate into a major incident and was efficiently managed, with the fire brigade playing a key role in containing the gas by spraying water. The situation is now under control, officials said.
