Jailed sitting MP and radical Sikh preacher Amritpal Singh's father Tarsem Singh was detained at his house by the Amritsar Police, stopping him from taking part in the Quomi Insaaf Morcha in Mohali.
Tarsem Singh has recorded a video message requesting people of the state to join the Quomi Insaaf Morcha, which advocates for the release of Sikh detainees who have been held for the past two years.
He then raised questions and criticised Punjab's ruling Bhagwant Mann-led government for what he described as oppression.
"The Kaumi Insaf Morcha, now in its second year, was hosting a large gathering that we were supposed to attend, but since last night, police forces have been deployed throughout the village. By denying people the right to voice their anger, the Bhagwant Mann government is undermining democracy. This is very disheartening. Whenever people gather to discuss an issue, they should not be obstructed", Singh was seen saying in the video message.
Singh recently revealed plans to launch a new political party. The announcement is set to take place during the 'Panth Bachao, Punjab Bachao' rally during the 'Maghi Da Mela' in Sri Muktsar Sahib.
Amritpal Singh is currently lodged in Assam's Dibrugarh jail under the National Security Act (NSA).
