Andhra gears up for Skill Census, says Nara Lokesh

Andhra Pradesh Education and IT minister Nara Lokesh chaired a high-level review meeting on Thursday - X.

Andhra Pradesh is all set to launch its first Skill Census initiative, aimed at identifying and enhancing the skills of the youth to improve their employment prospects, says Education Minister Nara Lokesh.

The minister also held a review meeting with skill development officials and directed them to make all necessary arrangements to carry out the Skill Census.

He said that the primary goal of the skill census is to gather detailed information, promote skill development, provide job opportunities, and subsequently improve the economic conditions of the youth.

Initially, the initiative will be piloted in one constituency before being expanded across the state.

He also suggested incorporating Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance the programme’s outcomes, stressing the importance of providing training to enumerators and raising awareness among the youth.

As part of the Skill Census, the government will identify youth with interests in various sectors, provide them with specialised training, and issue certifications in collaboration with reputed organisations.

These certifications are expected to increase job prospects not only within the state but also through platforms such as Naukri.com and LinkedIn, and even in other states and countries.

The minister further recommended making provisions for students pursuing education outside the state and abroad to register their details online.

The ultimate aim of the Skill Census is to digitise the skills of the youth and open up better opportunities for them, said Lokesh.

During the meeting, it was decided to finalise the operational procedures at an upcoming session chaired by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu.

IT and Electronics Secretary Saurabh Gaur, Skill Development MD G Ganesh Kumar, NACK ADG Dinesh Kumar, CDAP CEO Srinivasulu, and OmCap MD Kranti, were among the people who attended the meeting on Thursday.
