The Andhra Pradesh government submitted a report to the Centre on Friday, estimating total losses of ₹5,244 crore caused by cyclone 'Montha', according to its preliminary assessments.
Chief Secretary K Vijayanand submitted the report, which shows that the severe cyclonic storm affected 1,434 villages and 48 urban areas, with 161 mandals receiving heavy rainfall.
A press release confirmed that Andhra Pradesh suffered this loss, as detailed in the preliminary report provided to the central government. Breaking down the figures, the report noted significant damage to transport infrastructure: 4,794 km of R&B (Roads and Buildings) roads and 311 culverts and bridges were damaged, resulting in losses of ₹2,794 crore.
Panchayat Raj roads, along with culverts and bridges, suffered damages worth ₹454 crore across 862 km, while infrastructure losses in urban areas were valued at ₹109 crore. The cyclone also caused extensive crop damage, affecting agricultural produce in 1.38 lakh hectares and impacting 1.74 lakh farmers, leading to losses of ₹829 crore.
In the horticulture sector, 12,215 hectares were damaged, causing losses of ₹40 crore, and the aquaculture sector reported damages worth ₹514 crore, Vijayanand reported.
In addition, 2,261 livestock was damaged. Other losses included the irrigation sector (₹234 crore), the health sector (₹122 crore), and the power sector (₹19 crore). The report concluded that a total of 3,045 houses were damaged across 23 districts, and the government spent ₹32 crore on relief centres that accommodated 1.37 lakh people.
