The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced the schedule for the upcoming MLC elections in Andhra Pradesh. Polling will take place on February 27, 2025, with the counting of votes scheduled for March 3. The poll notification will be issued on February 3.

The elections will be held for several key constituencies, including the East & West Godavari and Krishna-Guntur graduate constituencies, as well as the Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, and Visakhapatnam teacher constituencies. These elections are important as they will determine the next set of representatives for the state’s legislative council.

The graduate constituencies, in particular, have become a battleground for political parties in Andhra Pradesh. Both the ruling party and opposition parties have been actively engaging in this election. The NDA alliance has already announced its candidates, while the Progressive Democratic Front (PDF) is also preparing to field strong contenders. However, the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has decided to abstain from the election and will not participate this time.

All major political parties have focused on ensuring voter enrolment, with a large emphasis on expanding their reach. TDP candidate Alapari Rajendra Prasad has already begun campaigning for the Krishna-Guntur graduate constituency, with support from both the Jana Sena Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), who are actively backing his candidacy.

As the election process kicks off, the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) has been implemented, with immediate effect. Election officers have been instructed to strictly enforce the code to ensure a fair and transparent process.
