Anini, a scenic town in Arunachal Pradesh’s Dibang Valley district, has been recognised at the national level for its growing adventure tourism potential. The town received the Best Emerging Adventure Destination Award at the 17th Annual Convention of the Adventure Tour Operators Association of India (ATOAI), held in Srinagar on Wednesday.
The award was received by District Tourism Officer Lamwang Aran from Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. Aran said the recognition reflects the collective efforts of the Arunachal Pradesh Tourism Department, local stakeholders and the residents of Anini in promoting a responsible and sustainable model of adventure tourism rooted in resilience and respect for nature.
According to officials, the region has been gaining national visibility through structured trekking programmes and the expansion of eco-adventure initiatives.
“Nestled amid towering Himalayan ranges and vast alpine forests, Dibang Valley is home to the indigenous Idu Mishmi community and is known for its pristine landscapes. The district offers several trekking and adventure routes, including the Seven Lakes trek, Aeyo Valley trek, the Pomo Winter trek in Zambra Valley, and the culturally significant Athupopu trek,” said an official of the state tourism department.
Anini has also earned recognition at the Outlook Traveller Awards, winning the Silver for Best Offbeat Destination in 2023 and the Gold for Best Offbeat Mountain Destination in 2024. Officials attributed the town’s rising profile to improved accessibility and strong community participation.
