Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party President K Annamalai has said that he has the call records of Gnanasekaran, an accused in the Anna University sexual assault case.
Annamalai said the records could reveal crucial details about the case. The case has sparked political controversy in the state.
Gnanasekaran, a roadside biryani vendor, was arrested by Chennai Police on December 25 for allegedly assaulting a female student inside the Anna University campus on December 23.
The 19-year-old survivor, in her police complaint, stated that the accused received a call from someone he addressed as "Sir" during the assault.
This has led to controversy as the opposition leaders reveal the identity of the caller.
Annamalai, who has accused the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam party for misleading the investigation.
He has demanded the police and the state government to reveal the identity of the person whom the accused called, 'Sir'.

Annamalai added that he has one-year call detail records of Gnanasekaran.
The Bharatiya Janata Party leader said he would reveal the call records at an appropriate time.... "Right now, I am being patient to see if the police can bring out the truth."
Annamalai had previously alleged that Gnanasekaran has links to the DMK, posting a photo of the accused with ruling party leaders.
He claimed Gnanasekaran was a DMK student wing office-bearer, a charge denied by Tamil Nadu Law Minister S Regupathi.
In a dramatic protest, Annamalai had earlier flogged himself with a whip, demanding justice for the survivor.
All India Anna Dravida Munneta Kazhagam (AIADMK) has also demanded to reveal the identity of the person whom the accused referred to as "Sir".
