The state BJP president K Annamalai has denied claims that his party was attempting to change the leadership of AIADMK to bring the Dravidian party into an alliance with them.
Speaking to reporters, Annamalai said that the Bharatiya Janata Party would not interfere in the internal affairs of other parties. “Edappadi K Palaniswami is recognised as the AIADMK leader by its cadres. He is the opposition leader in Tamil Nadu. Why should we interfere in another party’s matters?” he asked.
Annamalai added that he firmly believed the BJP would face difficulties if it tried to meddle in the leadership issues of another party. When asked about previous reservations he had regarding an alliance w ith AIADMK, he clarified that he would not be an obstacle. “I want to reiterate that I won’t cause any problems for anyone. My priority remains the BJP’s growth in Tamil Nadu,” he stated.

He further explained that he was not against any individual leader or party. “I am not opposed to anyone. My focus is on the BJP’s growth in Tamil Nadu. But above all, the welfare of Tamil Nadu matters most to me,” Annamalai said.
When questioned about his stance on a potential AIADMK-BJP alliance, Annamalai made it clear that the party’s interests would always come first. “I’ve already said that I’m ready to work as a BJP cadre if needed. I didn’t enter politics for power. I want to work for a better Tamil Nadu,” he added.
Reportedly, he seems to have softened his stance on AIADMK following a meeting between AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) and Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi.
When asked about the alliance between BJP and AIADMK, Annamalai remained tight-lipped. "Our Home Minister has spoken. Please take his reaction as the final word on the matter."
Annamalai also emphasised that the BJP stands for progressive politics. “We have different policies from other parties. Yet, the Union government gave protection to TVK leader Vijay when the state government failed,” he concluded.
