The annual Amarnath Yatra is set to begin on 3 July 2025 and will continue until 19 August, with improved arrangements in place this year, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Vijay Bidhuri announced on Saturday.
Speaking to reporters in Srinagar, Bidhuri confirmed that all essential preparations, including those related to security, logistics, and infrastructure, are being finalised to ensure a safe and seamless pilgrimage for the devotees.
The sacred pilgrimage to the holy Amarnath Cave in the Himalayas, which draws lakhs of pilgrims each year, remains a priority for the administration. Bidhuri said that coordination has been intensified between security forces and civil departments to facilitate the yatra.
He also highlighted progress on ongoing development projects across the region.
“Two of the three major construction projects have been completed, while work on additional key infrastructure projects continues in Srinagar city,” the Div Com said, adding that “the Roads and Buildings Department, along with NHAI, is closely supervising engineering standards across all projects.”
Special security measures have also been planned for the upcoming Baisakhi celebrations. Enhanced deployment will be ensured at prominent religious sites, including Tral, Charar-e-Sharif, and Baramulla, Bidhuri stated.
Responding to a query regarding the government directive on installing CCTV cameras inside school buses, Bidhuri said, “The timeline has been set for the installation, and the measure has been taken keeping in view the security and safety of the school-going kids.”
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, during his recent visit to Jammu and Kashmir, also remarked on the scale of last year’s pilgrimage. “Over 5 lakh pilgrims visited Amarnath in 2024, the highest number in 12 years,” Shah said.
The administration, in collaboration with the tourism department, is expecting a record turnout of pilgrims this year.
