Former Union Minister and Hamirpur MP Anurag Thakur on Thursday paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversary at a function held in Awahdevi, officials said.
Speaking at the event, Thakur said on this special day, the nation honours two towering figures of India’s moral and political heritage.
He remembered Gandhi’s teachings of non-violence, truth, and Satyagraha, which not only guided India’s struggle for independence but also inspired movements for civil rights around the world.
Thakur also highlighted Shastri’s honesty and simplicity, his leadership during the 1965 war, and his famous slogan “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan,” which continues to motivate people across the country.
Following the conclusion of the BJP’s nationwide Seva Pakhwada campaign, Thakur led a rally in Awahdevi market to inform shopkeepers about the latest Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms.
He later participated in a cleanliness drive in Samirpur market along with party leaders and workers, encouraging citizens to contribute to a cleaner and self-reliant India.
District BJP President Rakesh Thakur and other party functionaries were also present at the programme.
