The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has facilitated the first commercial export of fresh mangoes from Jharkhand to the United Kingdom, marking a significant milestone for the state’s horticulture sector.
The consignment of 1.5 metric tonnes of Amrapali mangoes was flagged off in Kolkata on June 4 and exported to London, according to a press release from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The shipment was sourced from Beura Farmer Producer Company Ltd., an all-women Farmer Producer Company based in Simdega district’s Bano block.
The export was undertaken by M/s JGB Agrofresh Pvt Ltd, Kolkata, following capacity-building and export orientation programmes conducted by APEDA for Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs), Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) and farmers in Simdega district in May 2026.
Officials said the initiative was designed to strengthen awareness on export requirements, quality standards, packaging norms and global market opportunities for small and marginal farmers.

Following the training programme, APEDA facilitated a direct linkage between the farmer producer company and the exporter, enabling procurement of export-quality mangoes and integration of local farmers into the global supply chain.
The farmers associated with the FPC reportedly received higher returns compared to domestic market prices, highlighting the economic benefits of export-linked agriculture.
Jharkhand’s Amrapali mango variety, known for its taste and quality characteristics, has now entered international markets, adding the state to the list of Indian regions exporting fresh fruits abroad.
The initiative is expected to encourage better post-harvest handling, quality compliance and adoption of international standards among farmer groups,
particularly women-led and tribal collectives.
APEDA said it continues to support agricultural exports through capacity-building, traceability systems, quality improvement measures and market linkages, with a focus on strengthening farmer participation in global value chains.
