Archana Gupta becomes Haryana BJP’s woman chief.

After more than four decades, the Haryana BJP has appointed its second woman state president. Archana Gupta has been named as the new chief of the party’s state unit.

Gupta, who is a medical doctor by profession, is currently serving as the state general secretary of the BJP in Haryana. Her elevation marks a significant organisational change in the state unit.

The first woman to head the Haryana BJP was veteran leader Kamla Verma, who served as state president from 1980 to 1983. She passed away in 2021 at the age of 93.

The appointment was made as BJP national president Nitin Nabin announced new heads for several state units, including Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and Tripura. The official notifications were issued by party general secretary Arun Singh.

Along with Gupta’s appointment in Haryana, Kewal Singh Dhillon was named Punjab BJP chief, Abhishek Debroy was appointed Tripura unit president, and Union Minister Harsh Malhotra was made Delhi BJP chief.

After taking charge from outgoing president Mohan Lal Badoli, Archana Gupta thanked the party leadership for trusting her with the responsibility.

Originally from Panipat, Gupta has worked in several organisational roles within the party. She has also served as district unit president earlier.

Talking to mediapersons in Panipat, she said the BJP had consistently given opportunities to women and treated them as equal partners in political work. She also criticised the Congress and other opposition parties, accusing them of opposing the women’s reservation law in Parliament and blocking efforts to ensure greater representation for women.

Gupta thanked former party leaders, including Mohan Lal Badoli, Nayab Singh Saini, Om Prakash Dhankar and Subhash Barala for their efforts in strengthening the party in Haryana.

“Strengthening the party further will be one of my focus areas. I will also work to increase women’s participation in various spheres and take more steps for their empowerment,” Gupta said.
