In a joint operation, the Indian Army’s Romeo Force and the Special Operations Group (SOG) Poonch seized a cache of arms and ammunition hidden by terrorists in a cave in Gani village of Poonch district, Army sources said on Wednesday.
The arms and ammunition were found during a coordinated search operation carried out by Romeo Force and SOG Police in Gani village. Security officials described the recovery as a major success for forces operating in the region.
The Indian Army and SOG Poonch have been regularly carrying out anti-terror operations in the border district. The aim is to eliminate terrorist threats and stop infiltration attempts.
Poonch district lies along the Line of Control and is considered a sensitive area. Security forces remain on high alert to counter terrorism and cross-border infiltration.
Earlier, on February 22, the Indian Army said that six terrorists were killed in the past 20 days in counter-terror operations across the Jammu region. Officials said this dealt a significant blow to terror networks in Jammu and Kashmir.
On February 4, two terrorists were killed in an encounter in the Jophar Forest area of Basantgarh under Operation KIYA. On the same day, another terrorist was neutralised in the Dichhar area of Kishtwar during Operation Trashi-I. Three more terrorists were later killed during continued cordon and search operations in Kishtwar under Operation Trashi-I.
Security forces also foiled an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control in the Sunderbani sector. Alert Army troops stopped the infiltration bid. A large cache of arms and ammunition was recovered in these operations.
Operation Trashi-I, launched in January, has focused on forested and mountainous areas of Kishtwar, including Chatroo, Sonnar, Dolgam and Dichhar. The operation has involved several cordon and search operations.
