Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Upendra Dwivedi has reached Jammu today to oversee a joint security review meeting and assess the current security situation along the Line of Control (LoC) and in the hinterland.

General Dwivedi will lead a joint security review meeting with senior officials from the Jammu and Kashmir Police and other security forces at the police headquarters in Jammu.

According to sources, the focus of the Army Chief’s visit will be the recent escalation in terror activities in the Jammu region and the infiltration of foreign militants.

"The discussion will centre on addressing operational shortcomings, tackling infiltration issues, and intensifying operations against terrorists," sources informed.

In July 2024, the Doda district in Jammu and Kashmir experienced a notable increase in terrorist activity with multiple attacks.

These incidents include an encounter on 9 July, which followed a deadly ambush in on 8 July that resulted in the deaths of five soldiers.

Additionally, ongoing operations in Doda led to further clashes between security forces and terrorists.

This escalation in violence has prompted intensified security measures and joint operations to address the infiltration and activities of militants in the region.

Meanwhile, General Dwivedi’s visit follows back-to-back attacks in Doda, which have raised serious concerns about the security apparatus in the area.

The intensified focus on Doda comes after a series of engagements with terrorists, highlighting the need for a comprehensive review of current operational strategies and coordination among different security agencies.

The Army Chief's visit aims to strengthen the ongoing efforts to secure the region and ensure a robust counter-terrorism posture.
