Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Upendra Dwivedi reviews the security grid in the Kashmir region and assessed the preparedness for the upcoming Shri Amarnath Yatra 2025.

Army Chief (COAS) General Upendra Dwivedi reviewed the security apparatus in Kashmir and also assessed the preparedness for the forthcoming annual Amarnath Yatra 2025. This comes at a time when the region is gearing up for the 38-day Yatra starting on July 3.

In his post on X, the additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADG-PI) read that Army Chief Dwivedi was briefed on the evolving operational dynamic and the broader strategic landscape.

The briefing encompassed a demonstration on the infusion and embedding of the latest technology into the army’s overall operations for surveillance and counter-infiltration missions.

The militancy in Jammu and Kashmir has evolved from human-based to more tech-centric post-2021, with Jammu becoming a flashpoint after witnessing relative calm since 2007.

The intelligence and security agencies have recovered some of the high-tech tools used by the militants for carrying out attacks and for long-term survival during the encounters.

Two of the most worrying and sophisticated tools are Australian-origin Alpine offline maps, allegedly used to avoid detection and route mapping. The other is of Chinese origin, the “Ultra-Set”, which operates on highly encrypted coding to avoid detection from tech surveillance.

Both of these tools are being allegedly provided by the Pakistan army's special military branch, the Special Services Group (SSG), which conducts both covert and overt counter-terror operations in the country’s north frontier regions, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

“General Upendra Dwivedi, #COAS, reviewed the security grid in the Kashmir region and assessed preparedness for the upcoming Shri Amarnath Yatra 2025.

He was briefed on the current operational dynamics and the broader strategic landscape, including a demonstration on integration of advanced technologies in operations, leading to smarter decisions and enhanced surveillance and response mechanisms,” the Army said in its post on X on June 22.
