General Officer Commanding (GOC) of White Knight Corps, Lt Gen PK Mishra, on Monday reviewed the ongoing anti-militancy operations in areas of Udhampur, Doda, and Kishtwar districts, officials said.
The massive search operation continues in the Deoj Dhar forest, which connects Dudu-Basantgarh in Udhampur district with Bhaderwah in Doda district, since Friday evening.
One soldier was killed in the encounter, while another operation is ongoing in the Keshwan forests of Kishtwar district after a brief encounter on Sunday afternoon, they added.
Lt Gen Mishra was accompanied by GOC, Counterinsurgency Force (Delta), Maj Gen A P S Bal. The Corps commander flew by helicopter to Deoj Dhar to review the operations on Monday morning.
Both encounters have now turned into search operations, as no fresh contact has been established with the hiding terrorists. The army has pressed helicopters, drones, and sniffer dogs into service to track the terrorists.
Additionally, security forces have launched a simultaneous search operation in the Malhar area of Kathua district after receiving specific intelligence about the presence of some suspicious individuals in the area. The operations are ongoing across multiple locations in the three districts.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir police carried out a controlled explosion of a suspected object found near the bank of Dal Lake in Srinagar.
Officials said the object, described as a white ball, was detected and safely destroyed near the lake. A controlled explosion was subsequently carried out by the bomb disposal squad to eliminate any potential threat.
Police have taken cognisance of the matter and launched an investigation to ascertain the nature of the object.
