Defence officials have confirmed that multiple Byker YIHA III Kamikaze drones launched from Pakistan were intercepted and destroyed over Amritsar in the early hours of Saturday.

According to sources, the drones targeted several civilian areas in the region, posing a significant threat to lives and infrastructure. The Indian Army's Air Defence units swiftly responded around 5 am, successfully neutralising the incoming drones mid-air, averting potential casualties and damage.

"Pakistan launched Byker YIHA III Kamikaze drones in Amritsar, Punjab endangering the residential areas of Punjab. The attempt was thwarted by Army Air Defence guns at 5 am today, destroying the same in the air. The drone was aimed to target civilian areas and innocent civilians," defence officials said in their statement.

Earlier, debris and fragments from unidentified projectiles was recovered from agricultural fields in Mughlani Kot village, Amritsar, on Saturday morning.

Visuals from the site reveal charred patches of land and scattered metal fragments, indicating the impact zone of one of the intercepted objects. Local residents were the first to spot the remnants and alerted the authorities.

Similar scenes were reported from Rajasthan’s Barmer district, where fragments of a downed projectile were found near Baldev Nagar, in close proximity to the Uttarlai Air Force Station and Jalipa Military Station. Witnesses in the area recounted hearing loud explosions in the early morning hours, shortly before Indian security forces successfully neutralised the threat.

The Indian Army and local law enforcement have since increased patrolling and surveillance in these sensitive border regions as tensions remain high.

Suspected missile crash triggers explosion Phagwara

A suspected missile crash caused a loud explosion and fire in the early hours of Saturday at Khalyaan village near Phagwara.

The incident occurred around 2:40 am in the agricultural fields of Major Singh, a local resident. Villagers reported spotting two flying objects heading towards Adampur shortly before the explosion. One of the objects is believed to have fallen in the fields, causing a blast that left behind a crater measuring approximately 8 to 10 feet deep and 12 to 15 feet wide.

The explosion sparked a fire, which was initially tackled by villagers using available means until fire brigade personnel arrived and conducted cooling operations. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported despite the intensity of the blast.

Residents across Phagwara reported hearing the explosion and seeing drone lights in the sky, prompting a blackout in the area around 2:15 am as a safety measure.

A police team from the Rawalpindi Police Station reached the site over an hour after the incident, though no senior officer had arrived by morning. Police sources confirmed that investigations are ongoing to identify the nature and origin of the suspected missile or drone. The area continues to be monitored closely.
