Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday thwarted an arms smuggling attempt along the International Border in RS Pura as they recovered an AK assault rifle along with a magazine, officials said.
The recovery was made in a joint search operation by the Border Security Force (BSF) and police from Arnia after getting information about the suspected movement, they said.
They said a search operation was launched and was continuing in the area till the last reports were received.
Earlier on September 1, the Army had prevented an infiltration bid by terrorists along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Mendhar sector, officials had said.
Troops guarding the border, upon noticing a group of terrorists trying to sneak into Jammu and Kashmir, challenged the infiltrators, they said.
Heavy gunfire was reportedly exchanged between the two sides, though the infiltrators had later returned to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
Meanwhile, recent reports suggest that the Indian Army, along with Jammu and Kashmir Police, successfully thwarted multiple cross-border infiltration attempts at the International Border and Line of Control in the Gurez sector in late August and early September 2025.
Alert troops detected suspicious movement, responded to hostile fire, and launched operations resulting in the neutralisation of terrorists and the search for others.
