Security forces on Monday foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Uri sector of Baramulla district, Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.
They said the infiltration bid was foiled in the Torna area of Uri when alert troops noticed suspicious movement in the region.
“The infiltrators were challenged, leading to a brief exchange of fire. A massive search operation has been launched in the area,” officials said.
They said there was no confirmation of casualties on either side, while the security forces and Jammu and Kashmir Police are yet to release an official statement.
The operation is still underway, and further updates from are awaited.
Earlier, on August 13, a soldier was killed in the Uri sector during a gunfight near the LoC. "The Indian Army had foiled an infiltration bid in the Uri sector, killing at least two terrorists in the encounter. While foiling the infiltration, one Indian Army soldier lost his life," an Army official said.
This is the second infiltration bid within a span of ten days in the same sector. Earlier, the Indian Army launched a search operation in Poonch after spotting several Pakistani drones near the LoC.
