Army personnel provided timely emergency medical help to a 24-year-old woman suffering from post-labour complications in a remote, snowbound village of Udhampur district in Jammu and Kashmir, according to defence spokesman.
He said on Wednesday that heavy snowfall in Didi Beggar had blocked all roads leading to the nearest hospital — the Ayushman Arogya Mandir Primary Health Centre in Latti. This delayed evacuation and put the life of the patient, Ashu, at serious risk.
Responding swiftly to the distress call, the Army mobilised its resources and helped two civilian doctors reach the village despite harsh weather conditions, the spokesman said.
He added that a nursing assistant was deployed at the site to help stabilise the patient. Timely medical care helped control blood loss and stabilise Ashu’s condition.
At the same time, the Army coordinated with the civil administration and concerned departments to get the blocked road cleared, the spokesman said.
After the road was partially cleared, the patient was shifted to the hospital in Latti under the supervision of a Quick Reaction Team (QRT), he added.
“The operation underscores the Army's dedication to providing life-saving assistance under challenging conditions and ensuring the well-being of the local population,” the spokesman said.
