Army officers on Tuesday paid tributes to Havildar Gajendra Singh, who lost his life while battling terrorists in Sonnar village of Kishtwar district on Monday.
Singh was injured when suspected Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists hurled two grenades and opened fire on security forces during a search operation at a residential makeshift shelter (dhok) in the area.
Havildar Gajendra Singh, a Special Forces soldier, was killed in action “while gallantly executing a counter-terror operation” as part of the ongoing Operation TRASHI-I on the intervening night of January 18 and 19.
In its latest post on X, the Army’s White Knight Corps stated, “The GOC, White Knight Corps and all ranks pay solemn tribute to Havildar Gajendra Singh of the Special Forces, who made the supreme sacrifice while gallantly executing a counter-terrorism operation in the Singpura area during the ongoing Operation TRASHI-I on the intervening night of 18-19 Jan 2026.”
“We honour his indomitable courage, valour and selfless devotion to duty and stand firmly with the bereaved family in this hour of profound grief,” the post further read.
Meanwhile, the search to track down the suspected Jaish terrorists entered its third day on Tuesday. Security forces comprising the Army, CRPF and Jammu and Kashmir Police have widened the search radius to locate the hiding terrorists in the area.
According to police officials, a group of two to three terrorists associated with the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad outfit is believed to be involved and is hiding in the upper reaches of Kishtwar.

Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists have carried out some of the deadliest terror attacks in the Union Territory over the past few years.
Security forces, while maintaining strict area domination, face the treacherous challenge of eliminating 12 to 18 active terrorists believed to be hiding in the vast forest areas spanning across thousands of square miles in the Pir Panjal mountain ranges.
