Indian Army has dismissed reports alleging recent incursions by the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) into Arunachal Pradesh, calling such claims “baseless” and without factual basis. In a statement issued late Monday, the Army refuted media reports that suggested fresh Chinese encroachment and the establishment of new PLA camps in the border state.
“We have seen some media reports alleging recent encroachment by the Chinese PLA and the setting up of camps in Arunachal Pradesh. These reports are incorrect and without any basis,” the statement said.
The clarification came in response to claims made earlier in the day by a local organisation, which alleged that Chinese forces had expanded infrastructure near the Taksing circle in Upper Subansiri district.
According to the organisation, a memorandum was submitted to the district administration, alleging that roads, bridges, and military camps had been constructed in areas traditionally used by local residents for grazing, collecting forest resources, and hunting. The memorandum further claimed that such developments had been ongoing for over a decade, with a noticeable increase in activity after 2020. It also alleged that several areas once freely accessed by villagers had gradually come under Chinese military control.
The organisation identified multiple locations where it claimed such infrastructure had been developed, including Oying (Asaphila area), Paniar (Chujarta area), Marpan (Marnafe), Potrang Lake, and Tindingtang (TG).
While expressing confidence in the Army’s role in safeguarding the border, the group raised concerns over what it described as a growing pace of Chinese activity near Taksing and warned of potential long-term implications.
Indian Army, however, reiterated that there has been no recent encroachment or establishment of new PLA camps within Indian territory.
Arunachal Pradesh shares a 1,080-km boundary with Tibet, an autonomous region administered by China, and remains a sensitive frontier area with a history of differing territorial perceptions between the two sides.
