Security forces initiated a search operation after a suspected drone movement was detected along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Friday, officials said. The combing operation was carried out in the forward area of the Gulpur belt.
According to security forces, the object had moved back from the LoC following a challenge attempted by the troops stationed in the forward areas. The Indian Army fired at a Pakistani drone in Jammu and Kashmir's Nowshera sector near the Line of Control (LoC) this evening, sources said.
Several more drones were spotted, they said. Earlier last month, the Pakistani side sent over a dozen drones along the International Border and Line of Control across several districts in Jammu and Kashmir.
On January 15, multiple drones were spotted along the IB and LoC in Degwar village of Samba district, while another drone was also spotted in Topa in the Mankote sector of Poonch district on the evening of the same day.
Prior to this, on January 11, multiple drones were sighted along the forward areas of the Jammu division, with forces subsequently launching a combing operation to recover the objects and any droppings, if any.
Shortly after, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi said India has put Pakistan "on notice" over recent unmanned aerial vehicle sightings along the Line of Control. However, hours after his warning, several drones were spotted near the Dungala-Nabla area of the Rajouri district, which returned after being challenged by security forces as part of standard operating procedure (SOP).
