An Army soldier sustained injuries after his service rifle accidentally discharged while he was on duty in a forward area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, officials said.
The incident occurred on Wednesday night in the Baloni sector of Mendhar.
Army authorities promptly evacuated the injured soldier and shifted him to a hospital in Rajouri for treatment. This is not the first such incident in the region. On April 7, a CRPF jawan deployed in Poonch was killed after his service weapon accidentally discharged.
On April 6, a 24-year-old soldier, Jaideep, died after his service rifle accidentally went off at an Army camp in the Langate area of Handwara in Kupwara district.
Earlier, on March 29, three soldiers at an Army camp in Trehgam, also in Kupwara district, were injured due to the accidental discharge of a service weapon.
