Kerala police have taken swift action, arresting one individual and placing two under custody in connection with alleged threats made against Mavelikkara Additional Sessions Judge-I, V G Sreedevi.

The threats surfaced on various social media platforms following her recent verdict in the murder case of BJP OBC wing leader Ranjith Sreenivasan.

Security measures for Judge Sreedevi were escalated on Wednesday after the police took serious note of the online threats.

A senior police official revealed that one arrest has been made, and details about the two individuals in custody will be disclosed as the investigation progresses.

The court's verdict on Tuesday sentenced 15 individuals linked to the now-banned Popular Front of India (PFI) to death for their involvement in the 2021 murder of Ranjith Sreenivasan in district.

The judge asserted "absolute justification" for the capital punishment meted out to all accused persons.

The brutal murder of Sreenivasan, a lawyer and BJP OBC Morcha state secretary, occurred on December 19, 2021, in front of his family. The assailants, affiliated with PFI and the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), were implicated in the crime.

The police initially suspected the murder to be in retaliation for the killing of SDPI leader K S Shan just hours earlier, although the trial in Shan's murder case has yet to commence.

The circulation of insulting posts on social media platforms targeting the judge prompted the heightened security measures and subsequent legal actions.
