Volunteers removed around 1,800 kg of waste from the Yagamso River during a cleanliness drive along the Energy Park stretch on Saturday, highlighting efforts to restore urban water bodies in Arunachal Pradesh.
The waste, largely comprising household plastics and construction debris, highlighting the growing impact of improper disposal on river ecosystems, a Youth Mission for Clean River (YMCR) official said. To ensure environmentally responsible handling, volunteers segregated the waste on site. Plastics and construction materials were transported to designated dumping areas, while organic wet waste was composted in nearby pits to enrich the soil naturally.
The drive saw active participation from the Nyishi Students’ Union of Rajiv Gandhi University. Social media influencers Shiva Tells and Deju Bayor also joined the initiative, helping raise awareness about river conservation and sustainable practices.
“Engaging local youth and communities is crucial to keep our rivers clean and preserve ecological balance,” the YMCR official added.
