Arunachal Pradesh has ushered in a new era of learning with the introduction of 'Bagless Days' in its government schools, aimed at alleviating the burden on students and enriching their educational experience.

Led by Pasang Dorjee Sona, former Speaker of the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly, the initiative marks a significant departure from traditional schooling practices.

Sona shared his enthusiasm following the successful observance of 'Bagless Day' at Government Upper Primary School, Banfera, Longding district on June 22.

The concept behind 'Bagless Days' is to provide students with relief from carrying heavy school bags and instead focus on practical learning.

These designated days, part of the state's Mission Learning Enhancement Arunachal Pradesh (LEAP), will see schools engage in diverse activities ranging from arts to cultural studies.

"Through these initiatives, the state seeks to elevate teaching and learning outcomes across its government schools, ensuring that students are equipped not only with academic knowledge but also with practical skills essential for their holistic development," stated an official of the educational department.

This approach aims not only to lighten the physical load on students but also to foster a deeper, more engaging educational environment, he added.

In collaboration with the Reach to Teach Foundation and under the guidance of NITI Aayog, the Arunachal Pradesh Department of School Education has launched several educational initiatives.

These include the School Readiness Programme, Learning Recovery and Enhancement Programmes, and vocational skills education, all designed to align with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

The introduction of 'Bagless Saturdays', where students are encouraged to participate in experiential learning without the encumbrance of school bags, exemplifies Arunachal Pradesh's commitment to holistic education.

Education initiatives in Arunachal Pradesh

The Department of School Education in Arunachal Pradesh, under Mission Learning Enhancement Arunachal Pradesh (LEAP) for the 2024-25 academic session, has introduced a range of pivotal educational initiatives.

Developed in collaboration with the Reach to Teach Foundation, a Knowledge Partner of NITI Aayog, these initiatives include the School Readiness Programme (SRP), Learning Recovery and Enhancement Programmes (LRP and LEP), Board Exam Preparedness initiatives, Bagless Saturdays across all classes, vocational skills education from classes 6 to 12, and a 100-day FLN reading campaign for classes 1 to 3.

These efforts are squarely aimed at aligning with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, with a clear focus on bolstering educational standards and learning outcomes in government schools throughout the state.
