Taking strong exception to Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu calling Congress leader Rahul Gandhi “Desh ke Dushman”, senior Congress leader and former minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu, on Wednesday, termed the remarks as “sad, unfortunate and deeply irresponsible”, and advised Bittu to introspect and look within before making such statements.

Ashu said it was shocking that a leader who owes his entire political career to the Congress and the Gandhi family was using such language against Rahul Gandhi. “Bittu became a Member of Parliament thrice because the Congress and the Gandhi family trusted and supported him. It is unfortunate that the very person who benefited from their faith is now calling Rahul Gandhi a dushman,” he said.

“Just because you have become a poster boy of the BJP today does not mean you forget those who helped you rise in public life and start abusing them for political convenience,” Ashu said.

The former minister said Bittu knows well in the heart of his hearts what he owes to the Gandhi family, which picked him up, nurtured him and gave him opportunities time and again. “But you forgot everything and chose to betray the party and its leadership for the sake of power,” he remarked.

Ashu said it was even more surprising and painful that such words were coming from someone whose own grandfather, late Beant Singh, stood firmly against the very ideology the BJP represents and sacrificed his life fighting divisive forces to protect Punjab and the nation.

“It is ironic that a person who claims to inherit Beant Singh’s legacy has abandoned the very principles his family stood for. By switching sides for power and then questioning the patriotism of others, he only exposes his own confusion and lack of conviction,” Ashu said.

Ashu asserted that personal attacks and such reckless statements only lower the dignity of public life and reflect political frustration rather than truth.
