In a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the mysterious death of Chief Engineer Vimal Negi, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Pankaj has been suspended for allegedly hiding a pen drive recovered from the deceased's body.
The suspension was ordered by the Shimla Superintendent of Police following evidence of negligence by the officer. This action follows an affidavit submitted by the Himachal Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) in the High Court on May 21, which highlighted concerns about the conduct of the Shimla Police Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case.
Negi, a senior official with the Power Corporation, was found dead under suspicious circumstances. During the investigation, a pen drive recovered from his body was reportedly concealed by the ASI, prompting swift action by the police department.
In addition to the suspension, a departmental inquiry has been initiated against ASI Pankaj to delve deeper into the incident. The case continues to draw public attention as demands grow for a transparent and thorough investigation.
