Asia’s largest tulip garden, situated at the foothills of the Zabarwan mountain range in Srinagar, will open to the general public on March 26.
With its 1.7 million bulbs in full bloom, the garden is expected to be a major attraction for both domestic and international tourists in the coming months.
However, unlike previous years, there will be no grand event or inaugural ceremony this year due to the ongoing holy month of Ramzan.
During an interaction with reporters, Javid Masood, in charge of Tulip Garden, stated that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah would inaugurate the garden on March 26 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Notably, the garden recorded an unprecedented footfall last year. Anticipating a similar rush, authorities have widened the parking area and introduced additional optional spaces to accommodate visitors.

“We are expecting a huge footfall of visitors this year as well,” Masood said, adding that 4.5 lakh visitors had visited the garden last year in just 30 days. “We are prepared to accommodate the record number of visitors this year.”
He mentioned that 100 gardeners and casual labourers had been involved in the extensive preparations, which had exceeded their expectations in terms of results.
The renowned Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden, home to 1.7 million tulip bulbs, will feature two new varieties imported from the Netherlands this year.
Visitors will also have the convenience of purchasing e-tickets, according to Masood.
The Tulip Garden earned a place in the World Book of Records (London) in 2023 as Asia’s largest tulip garden.
In 2024, the garden witnessed an extraordinary surge in tourism, with 4.45 lakh visitors, including approximately 2,000 foreign tourists, arriving to witness its vibrant floral display.
