Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday announced that the Council of Ministers of the Government of Assam will be expanded on June 5, 2026, as the NDA government prepares to induct new members into the state Cabinet.
In a post on X, Sarma said, “I am pleased to inform that the Council of Ministers of the Government of Assam will be expanded on June 5, 2026.” He, however, did not specify the number of ministers to be inducted or disclose any names.
Sarma was sworn in as Chief Minister for a second consecutive term on May 12 by Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union ministers, and Chief Ministers of NDA-ruled states.
Alongside Sarma, four ministers took oath — BJP leaders Ajanta Neog and Rameswar Teli, AGP president Atul Bora, and BPF leader Charan Boro.

Of these, Neog, Bora and Boro were retained from the previous ministry, while Teli, a former Union Minister of State, was inducted into the state Cabinet after returning to the Assembly.
Bora was allotted key portfolios including Implementation of the Assam Accord, Border Protection and Development, Panchayat and Rural Development, and Excise. Neog was given Tourism and Women and Child Welfare departments.
Boro received Transport and Welfare of Bodoland departments, while Teli was assigned Transformation and Development, Labour Welfare, and Tea Tribes and Adivasi Welfare portfolios.
All remaining departments not yet allocated continue to be held by the Chief Minister.
The BJP-led NDA returned to power in Assam for a third consecutive term, winning 102 of the 126 Assembly seats, with the BJP securing 82 seats and its allies AGP and BPF winning 10 seats each.
