Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced an imminent reshuffle of his ministry, aiming to refresh his team ahead of the 2026 assembly elections.

Speaking to the media, Sarma revealed plans to incorporate at least three new faces into the cabinet by August 15.

Although the Chief Minister is yet to discuss the reshuffle with the central leadership of the BJP, he intends to proceed after addressing the current flood situation in the state.

“We will change our ministry and give it a new look. We need to prepare the team for the 2026 assembly elections that will work with new energy,” Sarma stated.

The reshuffle process is expected to commence in about a month, culminating in the formation of a new ministry by mid-August.

The Chief Minister indicated that while no final decisions have been made, the reshuffle would bring new vigour to the administration.

Three new members will be inducted into the cabinet, filling two existing vacancies and one anticipated vacancy as Assam excise, transport, and fisheries minister Parimal Suklabaidya recently won the Lok Sabha polls from Silchar.

Sarma clarified that not all current ministers would be replaced, but departmental responsibilities are likely to be redistributed to infuse new energy into the government.

This strategic move is designed to bolster the administration and ensure effective governance as the state gears up for the 2026 elections.
