Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Tuesday that the state’s Panchayat elections would be completed by February 10, 2024.

He further revealed that the state Assembly would convene for a special one-day session during the Kokrajhar budget session, signalling a shift in the legislative calendar.

Speaking on the recent successes of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state, Sarma highlighted the party’s victory in five assembly constituencies, including a historic win in Samaguri.

The BJP's triumph in Samaguri marked the recovery of the seat from Congress after 25 years, which Sarma described as a "landmark political event."

The Chief Minister used the occasion to reaffirm the BJP's stance of "justice to all, appeasement to none" and stressed that the party would continue to ensure governance with uniformity.

Sarma reiterated that national security remained the BJP's top priority, while also showcasing various initiatives aimed at including minorities in the state's development.

With assembly elections approaching, Sarma expressed confidence in the BJP’s prospects, claiming widespread public support for the party’s agenda.

His remarks came at a politically charged time as the BJP seeks to strengthen its hold on Assam, following a series of victories in local and by-elections.
