The Assam government has joined forces with Dassault Aviation in a landmark Rs 240 crore project aimed at enhancing aerospace skills and creating job opportunities for the region's youth.

The collaboration will see Dassault Systems India Pvt Ltd. invest Rs 200 crore, with the Assam government contributing Rs 40 crore.

The primary aim of the Center of Excellence is to provide domain-specific training to engineering and science students in Assam.

Additionally, it will focus on upskilling professionals in related industries, offering training in areas such as robotics, aerospace, defence, and artificial intelligence.

"The initiative will establish a Centre of Excellence at Assam Engineering College, focusing on training 300 engineering graduates in Robotics, Aerospace, Defence, and AI," a government statement maintained.

The programme aims to provide specialised training in aerospace technologies, equipping students and professionals with skills critical for industry success.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma heralded the project as a major boost to the state's aerospace sector.

"The programme will equip students and professionals with the necessary skills to excel in the industry," Sarma said, emphasising the importance of the collaboration with Dassault Aviation, a global leader in aerospace.

In addition to this significant development, the Assam cabinet has decided to amend the standard operating procedure (SOP) for handling petty and minor cases in subordinate courts.

This change aims to decongest jails by releasing undertrial prisoners and will lead to the withdrawal of 81,000 such cases by March 2024.
