The flood situation in Assam has shown a slight improvement, with the number of affected individuals in 27 districts decreasing to around 18.80 lakh, officials reported on Tuesday.

Despite this marginal relief, the death toll from this year's floods, landslides, and storms has risen to 85, with six additional deaths reported on Monday.

Major rivers, including the Brahmaputra, continue to flow above danger levels at various locations, with forecasts predicting rain in isolated areas.

Currently, 18,80,700 people in 27 districts are impacted by the floods, a decrease from nearly 22.75 lakh affected individuals on Sunday.

Dhubri district remains the worst-hit district with approximately 4.75 lakh people affected, followed by Cachar with over 2.01 lakh and Barpeta with nearly 1.36 lakh residents suffering from the floods.

The administration is operating 543 camps and relief distribution centers across 25 districts, providing aid to 3,45,500 displaced individuals.

Rescue operations are being conducted by multiple agencies, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).

On Monday, the Regional Meteorological Centre in Guwahati reported a cyclonic circulation over Assam and neighboring areas up to 1.5 km above mean sea level.

Over the next 24 hours, thunderstorms and lightning are expected in isolated areas of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.

The Brahmaputra river is currently flowing above the danger mark at Nimatighat, Tezpur, Guwahati, and Dhubri.

Other major rivers breaching the danger level include Subansiri at Badatighat, Burhidihing at Chenimari, Dikhou at Sivasagar, Disang at Nanglamuraghat, Kopili at Dharamtul, Barak at BP Ghat, Sankosh at Golokganj, and Kushiyara at Karimganj town.

Significant damage to infrastructure, including embankments, roads, and bridges, has been reported from various parts of the state.
