Ahead of the swearing-in of the BJP-led NDA government in Assam, Chief Minister-designate Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday announced that the new administration would provide entrepreneurship support of Rs 5 lakh each to 10 lakh youths across the state.
The announcement, made through a post on X, is being positioned as one of the flagship commitments of the NDA 3.0 government aimed at promoting self-employment, entrepreneurship and economic growth in Assam.
Sarma said the initiative would form part of the government’s broader vision of building an “Atmanirbhar Assam” by encouraging young people to become job creators rather than job seekers.
“A Better Future is not a promise, It is our mission,” the chief minister-designate wrote in the post, adding that the government remained committed to supporting “dreamers and job creators” across the state.

Though detailed guidelines of the scheme are yet to be announced, the proposed support is expected to focus on entrepreneurship development, financial assistance and skill-linked economic opportunities for young people.
The announcement comes a day before Sarma is set to take oath as chief minister for a second consecutive term, with the BJP-led NDA returning to power in Assam for a historic third straight term.
The NDA secured a sweeping mandate in the Assembly elections, winning 102 seats in the 126-member House. The BJP alone won 82 seats — its highest-ever tally in the state and enough to secure a majority on its own.
The swearing-in ceremony on Tuesday at the Veterinary College Field in Khanapara is expected to be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and several senior NDA leaders.
The BJP campaign in Assam had placed significant emphasis on youth welfare, employment generation and entrepreneurship alongside issues linked to identity, land and development.
