In an effort to strengthen inter-state cooperation and maintain tranquility, a district-level border coordination meeting was held between the administrations of Assam's Jorhat district and Nagaland's Mokokchung district. The dialogue took place at Mangkolemba in Mokokchung.

The meeting was co-chaired by Jorhat District Commissioner Jay Shivani and Mokokchung Deputy Commissioner Ajit Kumar Verma. Key security and civil officials attended the discussions, including Jorhat Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Subhrajyoti Bora and Mokokchung SSP Vesupra Kezo. Representatives from the Border Peace Coordination Committee — a voluntary citizens' initiative dedicated to promoting goodwill among the border communities — were also present at the meeting.

According to administration officials, the meeting is part of a structured, ongoing coordination mechanism designed to iron out local grievances at the grassroots level and prevent border friction from escalating into full-blown disputes.

The border shared between Jorhat and Nagaland stretches approximately 128.5 kilometers. Officials noted that nearly 101 kilometers of this boundary fall within a contested belt. Areas along Jorhat’s southern edge — such as Mariani, Nakachari, and Seleng Hat—have historically experienced bouts of tension regarding boundary alignment.

During the session, both delegations emphasised the importance of keeping communication channels wide open and resolving any emerging local issues strictly through dialogue. The two sides agreed to continue these periodic coordination meetings to continuously review the ground situation and reinforce peaceful coexistence.

Highlighting the importance of the initiative, a participating Assam official stated that regular dialogue between the two administrations is vital to ensure minor regional issues do not spiral into larger conflicts, helping to actively reinforce trust across communities.
