Authorities in Assam have announced a dry day from 5 pm on April 24 to the evening of April 26 in five parliamentary constituencies.
The affected regions include Darrang-Udalguri, Diphu, Karimganj, Silchar, and Nagaon.
During these specified dry days, the sale or provision of alcoholic beverages will be prohibited across various establishments.
This includes wholesale warehouses, IMFL retail outlets, club premises, and hotels with liquor permits.
The decision aims to maintain order and fairness during the electoral process by reducing potential disruptions associated with alcohol consumption. It highlights the importance of creating a conducive environment for free and fair elections.
Earlier, on April 16, the Excise Branch of the District Commissioner's Office in Dibrugarh district had declared several days as dry days throughout the district.
Guwahati also observed dry days from April 17 to 19 during the Lok Sabha polls.
